Precision Tactical Consulting was founded by Patty Timson, MBA, to bring professional, judgment-free firearms training to Texas - with a focus on the students most often overlooked at the range: women, youth, families, and first-time gun owners.
Patty is the owner and lead instructor. She personally teaches the majority of classes, from Texas License to Carry to home defense to first-time pistol fundamentals, in both English and Spanish. Her career combines more than a decade of firearms instruction with an equally deep background in crisis management, emergency preparedness, and school safety - the kind of experience that shapes how she teaches situational awareness, decision-making, and confidence under stress.
Precision Tactical Consulting also works with a small network of vetted associate instructors - Military veterans with law-enforcement, private security, and personal-protection backgrounds - who are called on for specialized courses, larger group classes, and advanced defensive training. Their experience deepens the bench without diluting the standard.

At Precision Tactical Consulting, we build our training around one central belief: the right instructor makes all the difference. The firearm doesn't care who's holding it. What matters is whether the person behind it has been taught to handle it safely, think clearly, and make sound decisions under pressure. Everything we do serves that outcome.

We Meet You Where You Are
Some of our students have never touched a firearm. Others have carried daily for twenty years. Both are welcomed, and neither is talked down to.
Every class begins with a conversation - not an assessment. We want to know why you're here, what you already know, what you don't, and what you want to walk out with. From there, we adjust the pace, the depth, and the drills to fit the students in front of us. There is no cookie-cutter curriculum. There is no "prove you belong here."
If you are brand new, you will feel welcomed - not judged. If you are experienced, you will be challenged - not bored.
Fundamentals Come First - Always
We do not do tactical theater. No dramatic scenarios before the basics are locked in. No fast-draw showmanship for its own sake.
The reason is straightforward: defensive shooting is fundamentals shooting. Grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger control, and safe handling are what carry over when adrenaline hits. Everything else is decoration on top of that foundation.
Whether you are taking your first LTC class or your tenth defensive pistol course, expect us to inspect and refine the basics before we build on them. This is not filler. It is the training.
Mindset Comes Before Marksmanship
Shooting is a physical skill. Self-defense is a mental one.
Our lead instructor's decade-plus career in crisis management and emergency preparedness shapes how we teach every class. Situational awareness, threat recognition, decision-making under stress, and knowing when not to shoot are treated as core curriculum - not afterthoughts.
Being fast on the trigger does not help if you could not read the room before things escalated. We train both.
Safety Is the Standard, Not the Ceiling
We hold ourselves to the four universal firearms safety rules on every drill, every day, without exception - and we hold you to them the same way.
Our instructors do not tolerate unsafe handling. We will stop a class, correct a student mid-drill, or dismiss someone entirely if safety is compromised. This is not harshness. It is respect. The person next to you on the line deserves to go home.
Class sizes are deliberately kept small - typically no more than 6 students per instructor on the range - so every drill is supervised, every correction is caught, and every student gets real attention.
Bilingual and Judgment-Free by Design
Every class we teach is available in English or Spanish. That is not a marketing line - it is a standard. Language should not be the reason someone in Texas cannot access professional firearms training.
The same principle applies to experience. If you were told at a range once that you were "asking too many questions," or that you should have "figured this out already," you were in the wrong class. That does not happen here. Ask the question. Ask it three times if you need to. That is what training is for.
What We Do Not Do
Because it matters:
- We do not shame students for what they do not yet know.
- We do not use political posturing to sell training.
- We do not skip fundamentals to make a class feel more advanced.
- We do not run classes larger than we can safely supervise.
- We do not lecture. We teach.

Precision Tactical Consulting is led by owner and lead instructor Patty Timson, MBA - the instructor you'll work with in the majority of classes. For specialized courses and larger group training, Patty partners with a small network of vetted associate instructors, each bringing distinct military, law enforcement, and personal-protection experience to the range.
Between them, this team holds three Texas License to Carry Instructor certifications, more than 40 years of combined military, law enforcement, private security, and crisis-management experience, and a full stack of NRA and FEMA credentials.

Owner & Lead Instructor
Patty Timson, MBA
10+ years teaching. Texas LTC Instructor. Career in crisis management. Bilingual. NRA-certified across all major disciplines.
Patty isn't a former cop or a tactical operator - and that's the point. She's an MBA, a lifelong learner, and, for over a decade, the instructor everyday people have trusted to teach them how to protect themselves and their families with confidence.
Her focus is on first-time gun owners, women, youth, and families who want a patient, judgment-free place to learn - in English or Spanish.
What sets her classes apart is a full career spent in crisis management and emergency preparedness. Patty led crisis communications at Edison International during high-stakes events including the San Onofre nuclear plant closure, and later served on a K - 12 school safety task force, developing active-shooter response and emergency-preparedness programs. Earlier in her career, she served as a Family Liaison for the U.S. Marine Corps during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, supporting deployed Marines and their families.
That background shapes how she teaches. Handling a firearm is only part of self-defense - thinking clearly, deciding fast, and staying calm under stress is the rest. Patty trains all three.
Patty is a Texas License to Carry Instructor, certified to teach the state-required LTC class. She also holds NRA Instructor certifications in Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, and Concealed Carry, and is a certified NRA Chief Range Safety Officer, Personal Protection Inside and Outside the Home Instructor, - Refuse to Be a Victim - NRA Certified Instructor, and - Stop the Bleed - Certified Instructor.
Her emergency-management training extends further still - with more than a dozen FEMA certifications covering Incident Command, National Incident Management, active-shooter prevention and response, mass-casualty planning for schools and houses of worship, and disaster planning for the needs of children - the same operational frameworks used by first responders and school safety teams nationwide.
Associate Instructor
Robert Smith, United States Marine Corps, Vet.

Robert Smith is the instructor students come to when they want a straightforward, no-ego approach to firearms training built on real operational experience.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Robert brings more than a decade of combined military and private security work to the range. His career spans military security operations, armed security, executive personal protection, school safety, and security leadership - hands-on experience that shapes how he teaches every fundamentals block and defensive drill.
His teaching starts from a clear premise: firearm ownership carries two responsibilities - being safe with a firearm, and being prepared to use it responsibly for defense when necessary. Everything he teaches serves one or both.

Whether a student is handling a firearm for the first time, sharpening existing fundamentals, preparing for concealed carry, or advancing their defensive shooting skills, Robert meets them where they are.
Robert is a Texas License to Carry Instructor, certified to teach the state-required LTC class. He also holds NRA Certified Pistol Instructor and NRA CCW Instructor credentials, is a certified NRA Chief Range Safety Officer, and carries Texas Level III Commissioned Security Officer and Level IV Personal Protection Officer licenses - the state's highest civilian security tier, required for armed executive protection work.
Associate Instructor
Orlando J. Smith, U.S. Navy, MBA
10 years U.S. Navy law enforcement. Led a 200-person security force. Texas LTC Instructor. NRA Certified Pistol Instructor.
For Orlando, firearms instruction isn't a hobby that turned serious - it's a decade of Navy law enforcement experience meeting a personal wake-up call.
Orlando served nearly 12 years in the U.S. Navy, ten of them in law enforcement, physical security, and criminal investigations. He led a 200-person security and police force across four divisions responsible for protecting ships and 3,000 to 5,000 crew members inland and at sea. The training curriculum he built and delivered earned a 98% score on mandatory certification, covering day-to-day law enforcement, physical security, and terrorist threat response.
After his service, Orlando relocated to Houston, where he worked private security in healthcare and higher-education settings while completing his MBA.
His decision to teach came from a single moment. On October 6, 2025, he stepped outside his home to investigate sirens and helicopters - and was met by gunfire from an officer-involved shooting at the end of his own street. His takeaway was blunt: "Crime has found us. We should be carrying."
Today, Orlando brings that operational experience to civilian students in concealed carry, home defense, defensive pistol, and the sporting side of shotgun shooting he's loved for decades. He is a Texas License to Carry Instructor, certified to teach the state-required LTC class, an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, and holds a personal Texas License to Carry. He also carries FEMA Emergency Management credentials in Incident Command, Emergency Planning, National Incident Management, and Exercise Design - plus Harris County Certified Community Responder training.
